    • About Me

I am currently an American citizen residing in Naperville, thirty-five minutes west of Chicago. Originally from Rwanda, I migrated to Illinois in 2002. My educational journey took me to Morocco, where I majored in architecture. In 2015, I embarked on a new path as an Uber driver, and since then, I have completed forty-one thousand trips while maintaining a five star rating.

      Growing up in Rwanda

I was deeply involved in track and soccer. These sports instilled in me the values of victory and defeat, but more importantly, they taught me the profound impact of resilience and patience

Thanks to that kind of a prolonged experience I feel like I am able to help others. Basically, all the things that I’ve ever written about in any of my 12 books, is what’s been tested by me practically.

What is the craziest story you've had?

Do drunk people ever cause trouble in your car? Is it dangerous to drive for Uber? These are some of the questions I get from my riders once they get into my car.

This curiosity about what happens during an Uber ride inspired me to share my experiences from nine years and more than 40,000 trips driving for Uber.

With over 40,000 trips on the streets, highways, and roads of Chicago, Provy Taylor takes readers on a journey that goes far beyond simply earning a living. What appears to be an ordinary job—driving for Uber—becomes a gateway to the lives, stories, and experiences of people from all walks of life. Each passenger that steps into Provy’s car brings a unique set of emotions, behaviors, and attitudes—some good, some bad, and some downright dangerous.

Provy doesn’t just drive; he engages. He listens and converses, creating a lively exchange between himself and his passengers.
The conversations cover everything from personal struggles to politics, from life in America to global issues. And while driving is Provy’s job, connecting with people is his passion.

What unfolds inside the car often mirrors the unpredictability of life. Some passengers are impatient, pushing the boundaries of propriety by indulging in inappropriate behavior while Provy focuses on the road. Others share their deepest thoughts, frustrations, and dreams, offering raw glimpses into their lives. In one moment, a passenger might offer an unexpected proposition, while in another, Provy finds himself cleaning vomit from the backseat. All the while, the city of Chicago hums with its own life, sometimes violent, sometimes chaotic, but always alive with stories. Even after a bullet pierced the rear window of his car,

Provy continued driving, committed to his work. Chicago’s violence, though unsettling, becomes part of the backdrop. And while many Americans debate issues like gun control and crime,

Provy experiences these issues firsthand, from the driver’s seat. In this collection of 46 short stories, you will discover not just
the fabric of life in Chicago, but the complex, oftencontradictory nature of humanity itself. Each story is easy to read, yet rich with insights about who we are as individuals—and why we are different from one another. Through these stories, you may find yourself growing more tolerant, more understanding, and more reflective of the human experience.

Provy introduces these stories through conversations with Ann, his trusted interlocutor, who helps frame each encounter in a way that invites readers into the dialogue.

Together, they share moments of humor, tension, and revelation that make up the beauty and challenges of life in Chicago.

Now, I invite you to join Provy on this journey. Each story has something unique to offer, and by the end, you may find that the roads Provy travels are not so different from your own.

I am a father of three boys, a girl, and a grandfather. Most of my children are now self- sufficient, though my ten-year-old daughter in Paris still relies on me. I make it a priority to visit her and her mother whenever possible.

In my limited free time, I enjoy going to the gym, listening to music, and staying informed by watching the news. Spending time with my granddaughter is particularly cherished; I aim to return home early every Saturday to enjoy the evening with her and have breakfast with her and her dad the following morning.

Reflecting on my nine years with Uber, I realize how these experiences have been uniquely enriching. I am excited to share these stories with you and hope you find them as enlightening and entertaining as I did.
